Google in Motion – Animation Series

A familiar logo can take on a different personality through motion. In this self-initiated series, I explored how changes in form, rhythm and timing could make the Google mark more expressive while keeping it recognizable.

Objective

Explore distinct motion directions for an established identity without losing the visual cues that make it familiar.

Challenges & Decisions

  1. Recognition and expression

Keep the defining elements of the mark recognizable while changing how they move, transform and settle.

  2. Variety and cohesion

Give each animation its own pace and behavior while making the series feel like one exploration.

Approach

  1. Find the constants

Identify the visual cues that make the mark immediately recognizable.

  2. Explore movement

Experiment with form, rhythm, transitions and timing to create different behaviors.

  3. Refine the loops

Adjust pacing and endings so each animation reads clearly and plays smoothly.

Outcome & Reflection

The series shows how motion can give a static identity more range. The key was preserving what makes the mark familiar, then letting its movement carry a different personality.
